In Memoriam: Clarence G. Berry

Clarence G. Berry

We regret to inform you that Clarence G. Berry, 90, passed away on May 28, 2017, under the care of hospice and family. Mr. Berry founded Miller Berry & Sons in 1968, and his company has been a member of CFSA since 1988.

Born in Port Norris, N.J., he was a lifetime resident and the son of the late Miller and Tressa Grace Berry, and the husband of Jane Chambers Berry. Clarence was a founder of Berry’s Dairy, he operated his family’s Salt Hay farm, and in 1968 he started Miller Berry & Sons, a casket mattress manufacturing operation. Clarence enjoyed horseback riding and had his private pilot’s license. He was community-minded, and decided to run for a seat on the Commercial Township Committee. He eventually became mayor and also served as the Township Clerk. Clarence was a member of the Port Norris Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at the Hoffman Funeral Homes, 2507 High Street, Port Norris, New Jersey, on Monday June 5, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Haleyville Cemetery. Viewings will be held on Sunday evening, June 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Monday morning, June 5, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Port Norris Baptist Church, 1672 Main Street, Port Norris, NJ 08349 or Compassionate Care Hospice, 518 U.S. Rt. 9, Marmora, NJ 08223.
