In Loving Memory of Arvel L. “Elo” Cheek

OXFORD, Ala. – Arvel L. Cheek of Oxford, Alabama passed away on June 17. He was 86 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Betty J. Cheek; sons Rick (Libby) and Jeff (Sandra); grandsons Nic of Huntsville, Alabama, Matthew (Mai) and Jonathon (Brooke); granddaughter Erin; great-grandchildren Olivia, Phoebe, Miles and Grant of Oxford and Eastaboga, Alabama; brothers Randall McFadden (Claudia) of Oxford, Alabama and Wencil Cheek (Edith); sisters Alma Lee Howard of London, Kentucky and Pat Holthouse (Phil) of Hillsboro, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Cheek will be laid to rest in Oxford Memorial Garden during a private service to be determined. Due to social distancing requirements, there will be no viewing or public memorial service. The family has requested in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to your favorite charity.

Arvel, known as Elo to his friends, began working in the casket industry at Wallace Metal Products in Richmond, Indiana in 1954. He was transferred to the Wallace Plant in Anniston, Alabama in 1971.
